It felt like I could ‘see’ the moment where Nevin started to see Colin as someone he could be involved with. There wasn’t a single moment where I didn’t believe their chemistry and romantic progress. I loved how Kim Fielding wrote the opposite attracts between Nevin and Colin. So imagine the fun I had reading how Nevin started to care and later to feel for Colin Westwood, a true romantic at heart – Colin planned his future wedding back in grade school – loves his romantic movies, is the owner of a cat named Legolas, and most definitely doesn’t come from the same social circle as Nevin. Nevin doesn’t do relationships, he does not believe in falling in love. Nevin is as prickly as porcupine! He swears a lot, he disregards the law – I mean he likes parking in illegal spots (*laugh*) - and Nevin is totally a love ‘em and leave ‘em kind of guy. There is something gratifying about reading when these characters realize they are falling in love.Īnd Nevin Ng, former troubled foster kid who becomes a detective for those in need, fits this category really well. I love prickly characters in romance especially those who also don’t believe in relationships. This book hit me in ALL the right places. It features Nevin Ng, a detective in the Vulnerable Adult and Elder Crimes Unit of Portland Police Bureau, who is also Jeremy’s (the main character from the first book) cop buddy. Review: Love is Heartless is the second installment to Kim Fielding’s “ Love Can’t” series which starts with Love Can’t Conquer, released last year. The question is whether they have the heart to build something lasting. But sparks are short-lived, dampened by the advent of brutal crimes, and Colin and Nevin have seemingly little in common. But being a witness to a terrible crime-or two-was more than he bargained for.ĭespite their differences, Colin and Nevin discover that sparks fly when they’re together. Maybe it’s time to try something more exciting. Now he’s thinking maybe he won’t just go with the flow. Colin does do relationships, but they never work out. Too supportive, perhaps, since his childhood illness has left his parents unwilling to admit he’s a strong, grown man. Property manager and developer Colin Westwood grew up with all the things Nevin never had, like plenty of money and a supportive, loving family. Until he responds to the severe beating of a senior citizen and meets the victim’s bow-tied, wealthy landlord. He doesn’t take crap from anyone, and he doesn’t do relationships. Now a dedicated member of the Portland Police Bureau, he didn’t let a tough start in life stop him from protecting those in need. Blurb: Small but mighty-that could be Detective Nevin Ng’s motto.
